score keeping bowling

Bowling isn’t just strikes and spares when we play at Xushida. It’s also about keeping score of our scores. We keep score to understand our performance and to challenge our friends and family in a fun way. This guide will cover some bowling scorekeeping tips, mistakes to avoid, how technology makes it easier, and how to use a bowling scorecard.

But that’s not how scoring works in bowling. This is especially true so that we can see how many pins we have knocked down and how many points we have received. Keeping score helps us track progress over time. And it’s so much fun to celebrate when we score a strike or a spare!

Tips and tricks for keeping score while bowling

One tip: Keep track of how many pins you knock down on each ball. If you knock down all 10 pins on the first try, that’s a strike, and you can score 10 points, plus the points from your next two rolls. If you strike by knocking down all 10 pins with two balls, that’s a spare, and you get 10 points plus whatever is knocked down on your next roll.

A second useful trick: frame scoring — or that I call the frames. A bowling game consists of 10 frames, and in each frame you can roll two balls. You can see your score along with what you need to work on, by tracking scores in each frame.
